Every year several hundreds of thousands of people in countries with limited resources contract HIV. The most common causes include poverty, stigma, discrimination, lack of awareness, inadequate linkage to medical care and lack of HIV prevention programs. This situation is dramatic for all these countries.​

The Goal:

#GileadHacks4HIV provides an opportunity for people from diverse geographies and technical backgrounds to collaborate and compete for leading technology solutions – to transform the prevention, care and treatment of HIV and AIDS in regions with limited resources (Central Asia, South and Southeast Asia, Africa, Central America and Caribbean).

We will catalyze community driven design and development of digital innovations to raise HIV disease awareness; better visualize and analyze demand for HIV prevention, care and treatment services on both an individual and population basis; and optimize the navigation of delivery system(s) for HIV prevention and care services. 

We are looking for big ideas and scalable prototype tools that can significantly contribute to achieving the global goals of targeted, sustainable solutions for the prevention and treatment of HIV for those communities most in need.

Form a Team & Hack Virtually

5 April - 27 May

We will hold a 2-Month virtual hackathon on a dedicated platform for ideation. Join as a team or build one online! Bring your creative ideas, and Gilead, community partners and health advocates will be there to provide insights and advice as well as technical support and resources for your project. You will have access to webinars, videos, and online support as you and your team work on a ‘proof of concept’ to pitch to be a finalist. All finalists will be invited to a final pitch session beginning of June 2021, where you can become one of the winners.

We are looking for solutions for:

• Those at risk of acquiring or currently living with HIV 
• Health Care Providers (HCPs) and HIV Care Clinics​
• Community Stakeholders​ and Support Groups​

• Barriers to access to care and treatment
• Stigma, and lack of communication and awareness for those living with HIV
• Inadequate screening and testing for HIV in the community
